Create an Apple Developer account

Objective

An Apple Developer account is required to:

  • Publish applications on the App Store
  • Access Apple's advanced development tools
  • Test your applications on physical devices
  • Access Apple services such as push notifications, iCloud, etc.

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you have:

📱 Required hardware

  • A Mac with macOS (required for iOS development)
  • An iPhone or iPad for testing (recommended)

🆔 Required credentials

  • A personal or professional Apple ID
  • A valid and accessible email address
  • A phone number for two-factor authentication

💳 Payment methods

  • A valid credit card
  • Or a PayPal account (depending on the region)

🏢 For organization accounts

  • Your company's SIRET/SIREN number
  • Legal company information (address, legal representative)

Available account types

Individual

  • Cost: €99 / year
  • Usage: Independent developer
  • Limit: Only 1 person can access the account

Organization

  • Cost: €99 / year
  • Usage: Companies, agencies, teams
  • Benefit: Multiple users can be added
  • Required: Company verification by Apple

Enterprise Program

  • Cost: $299 / year
  • Usage: Large companies (500+ employees)
  • Specificity: Internal distribution only (not on the App Store)

Creation steps

1. Access the developer portal

Go to: https://developer.apple.com/programs/

2. Choose your account type

  • Click "Enroll"
  • Select your account type: Organization

3. Sign in with your Apple ID

  • Use your existing Apple ID or create a new one
  • Enable two-factor authentication if it is not already enabled

4. Complete the information

For an Organization account:

  • Company information
  • SIRET/SIREN number
  • Registered office address
  • Legal contact information
  • Proof of company existence (company registry extract, etc.)

5. Accept the terms

  • Carefully read the Apple Developer Program License Agreement
  • Accept the terms and conditions

6. Complete payment

  • Enter your payment information
  • The amount will be charged annually
  • Keep your receipt for your records

7. Account verification

Individual account:

  • Automatic verification in most cases
  • Activation within 24–48 hours

Organization account:

  • Manual verification by Apple
  • May take 7 to 14 business days
  • Apple may contact you for additional verification

After creation

Access to tools

Once your account is activated, you will have access to:

  • App Store Connect (app management)
  • Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles (development certificates)
  • TestFlight (beta testing)
  • Analytics (usage statistics)

DUNS number (required for Organization accounts)

What is a DUNS number?

The DUNS (Data Universal Numbering System) is a unique 9-digit identifier assigned by Dun & Bradstreet to companies worldwide. Apple requires it for all Organization and Enterprise developer accounts.

Why is it required?

  • Company verification: Apple uses the DUNS to confirm the legal existence of your company
  • Fraud prevention: Ensures the authenticity of enrollment requests
  • Standardized process: Uniform verification system worldwide

Points of attention

⚠️ Important:

  • Data consistency: Information must match your company registry extract exactly
  • Timelines: Plan ahead — the process can take 2 weeks
  • Free of charge: Never pay for a DUNS number via Apple or D&B
  • Verification: Apple will automatically verify your DUNS during enrollment

After obtaining the DUNS

Once your DUNS number is assigned:

  1. Wait 24–48 hours before using it for your Apple enrollment
  2. Verify the information in the D&B database
  3. Keep this number carefully for future needs

Troubleshooting

DUNS number not recognized by Apple

  • Wait an additional 24–48 hours after assignment
  • Verify that the information matches exactly

Incorrect information in the D&B database

Renewal

⚠️ Important: Your subscription renews automatically each year. If you do not renew:

  • Your apps will be removed from the App Store
  • You will lose access to development tools
  • Certificates will expire
